Eighth edition.Bound in quarter leather binding.
In the "Book of Fate", facing pages have duplicate page numbers. Fold-out frontis, "Questions which may be put to the Oracle", mounted on linen, worming to the top and bottom half. Decorations to top of each page.
Spine rebound,gilt titles,gilt lines dividing six compartments,each of which have a gilt floral design.Joints,binding and hinges are in good condition.Pages are tanned and foxed throughout.There is a linen frontispiece which folds out titled'Questions which may be put to the Oracle' this is tanned,wormed and foxed but complete.
The Oraculum was originally discovered in one of the Royal tombs of Egypt during an 1801 French military expedition and, at Napoleon’s request, was translated by the famous German scholar and antiquarian, Kirchenhoffer.
Apparently consulting it before every important occasion, the book became one of the emperor’s most treasured possessions.
