A significant work of French social history, Du Divorce (1789, second edition) was published at the dawn of the French Revolution and argued forcefully for the legalization of divorce, anticipating the landmark 1792 law. Attributed to Albert-Joseph-Ulpien Hennet, it challenges the Catholic doctrine of marital indissolubility upheld by the Ancien Régime. The copy bears the Ex Libris of “Can. de Beaurepaire,” adding notable provenance and historical irony. Bound in contemporary mottled calf with gilt tooling, it remains very good for its age, with sound joints, light wear, and internally secure, age-toned pages.

フランス革命が勃発した記念すべき1789年にパリで刊行された、離婚制度に関する重要な社会史・法学資料です。

著者のウルピアン・エネ（Ulpién Hennet）は、当時、宗教的・伝統的価値観によって厳しく制限されていた離婚の合法化を主張し、啓蒙思想の影響を強く受けた論考を展開しました。本書は初版から間を置かずに発行された「第2版」であり、当時のフランス社会における本テーマへの関心の高さが伺えます。
