First Edition (1904) of Manchu and Muscovite by B. L. Putnam Weale, published by Macmillan & Co., London, subtitled Being Letters from Manchuria Written during the Autumn of 1903*. This firsthand account details Russian occupation of Manchuria prior to the Russo-Japanese War, covering administration, military presence, and the approaching conflict. Features a large fold-out map of Manchuria and numerous photographs. Provenance includes a Kelly & Walsh, Ltd., Yokohama bookseller ticket and a Japanese pencil inscription. Condition: original blue cloth fair with staining, frayed spine ends, and bumped corners; rear hinge cracked but holding; interior good, text age-toned but clean, map in good condition. A key primary source on East Asian geopolitics.
