Hardcover, a first edition published in 1858. Bound in the publisher's original brown cloth with gilt titling on the spine. The color of the cloth has faded over time. There is wear on the hinge cloth fabric, but it is only surface-level and does not affect the binding. Additionally, there is wear on the bottom of the spine and bumped corners. An ownership signature, seemingly Japanese, is present, along with a small inscription stating 'from the author' on the front end paper. Furthermore, there are small pencil inscriptions on the rear flyleaf. The text itself is clean throughout and shows no signs of aging.
