Bound in publisher’s original red cloth with gilt titling to the spine. With dust jacket. The upper section of the front panel and head of the spine show noticeable creasing, wear and short tears. Light rubbing to extremities. The text is generally clean throughout, though a few pencil markings are present.

Both volumes retain their original dust jackets, which are seldom found. The jackets are heavily worn and chipped: the spine of Volume I is missing and the inner flaps are laid over the binding; the jacket of Volume II lacks the upper portion of the spine and shows further edgewear and short tears.
The cloth bindings are clean and well preserved with light rubbing to extremities.
Texts of both volumes remain clean, bright, and sound throughout. An important bibliographical study forming part of the Shakespeare Problems series, here in the scarce first edition and uncommon with the original dust jackets present.
