First Edition. Thick tall octavo. Original blue cloth, lettered and decorated in gilt to spine and upper board. With frontispiece and numerous black-and-white illustrations in the text, including full-page plates with tissue guards, many of which are engraved.
Ex-library copy, with a printed label to the spine, an embossed library stamp to the title page, and a circulation slip and small label affixed to the rear pastedown.
Corners heavily bumped and worn through; cloth frayed at head and tail of spine, with minor loss to top and foot; short closed tear to cloth at head of spine. Boards somewhat rubbed. Inner top margin of some leaves shows staining. Binding remains sound.
A good reference or reading copy.
