Revised and expanded from the 1903 edition by T. H. Darlow and H. F. Moule, this book is in very good condition with blue cloth and gilt vignette and spine lettering. It is an Ex-Dewsbury Library copy and has associated stamps and labels. There are some marks on the cloth, but the text is near fine with occasional pencil annotations.

The 'Pearl Bible'.Full Leather Binding. The Page edges are all gilt. Repaired and replaced spines with the original boards. Carefully collated. Faults: Page Bb3 in VolⅠhas a small tear to the side of the page with loss to 3 or 4 letters on the side of the page. Page Tt10 in VolⅡ has the corner torn off with loss to some words at the bottom of the page. Damp staining, tanning and some fading throughout. Page Oo to Rr are trimmed tight to the right hand margin sometimes impacting the text(this is historic). Some pages with creases which hide the text(it is present)presumably caused by the binder.
This remarkable and beautiful bible, is known as the ‘Pearl Bible’ from the minuscule type with which it was printed. Most 19th century bibliographers cite it as extremely rare in good condition.
There is some supposition that the edition is a counterfeit one, made in Holland for the English market, but this appears inconclusive.

Second Edition, Corrected. Title page printed in red and black. Bound in full contemporary brown calf over cords. Spine replaced and in good condition. Hinges strong.Gilt titles on a red label, 5 raised bands, 6 compartments. Joints good condition.Corners good condition bumped and worn with the top right hand corner of the front board partly missing. Boards good condition brown leather boards with embossed design to the front and rear.
An interesting and important history of the lives of the Popes. Rycaut had access to a number of papers in the Vatican which were never before accessible.

Full leather binding.Faded gilt borders around the boards.Spine has been repaired with the original spine laid on.Six raised bands on spine.Each compartment contains faded gilt decorations,apart from the second compartment which contains faded gilt title. Page edges plain.Front pastedown contains a 'John Medows Rodwell' bookplate withe a copperplate signature underneath.New free endpapers.Pages are foxed and tanned.Hinges and binding are in good condition(repaired). 29 engraved illustrations on full page plates.One of the plates has damage with loss to the image at the middle base.Text is bright and clear.Overall a nice volume albeit worn with age.Scarce volume.One recorded at the British Library and one at the Alexander Turnbull Library.
