フライブルク大学の現代文学教授フィリップ・ヴィットコップ編集による、第一次世界大戦で戦死した学生の手紙をまとめた書籍。第二次世界大戦後に日本で刊行された「きけわだつみのこえ」は本書をモデルにしたといわれる。
手紙の編集と出版自体は第一次世界大戦中から行われていたが、1928年に大幅に増補された本書が発行。ヴァイマル時代の相対的安定期と独仏協調に代表されるドイツの国際政治復帰に象徴されるように、本書の内容は単なる愛国書簡集ではなく、戦場での英仏学徒兵との交歓の手紙を載せるなど、国際色ある内容となっている。

4th edition (additional printing), 353pp, original cloth binding, title lettered in red on spine and front cover, top edge black, inscribed by former owner on end paper, spotting on fore edge, page 353/354 repaired フライブルク大学の現代文学教授フィリップ・ヴィットコップ編集による、第一次世界大戦で戦死した学生の手紙をまとめた書籍。第二次世界大戦後に日本で刊行された「きけわだつみのこえ」は本書をモデルにしたといわれる。手紙の編集と出版自体は第一次世界大戦中から行われていたが、1928年に大幅に増補された本書が発行。ヴァイマル時代の相対的安定期と独仏協調に代表されるドイツの国際政治復帰に象徴されるように、本書の内容は単なる愛国書簡集ではなく、戦場での英仏学徒兵との交歓の手紙を載せるなど、国際色ある内容となっている。
