A scarce firsthand account of the Russo-Japanese War (1904–1905) by American war correspondent Frederick Palmer, who was attached to the Japanese First Army under General Kuroki Tamemoto. Palmer witnessed key engagements including the Yalu River crossing and the Battle of Liaoyang, offering a valuable Western perspective on the modernization and discipline of the Imperial Japanese Army. Illustrated with numerous contemporary black-and-white photographs from the front lines. Condition is acceptable to fair only: original red cloth with gilt lettering shows heavy sunning, wear, and chipping; the front hinge is cracked but pages remain attached. Interior shows heavy foxing and age-toning. Approx. 23 cm tall.
