This listing offers Samantapāsādikā, Volume III, the respected Pāli Text Society (PTS) edition. It is the 1968 reprint of the original 1930 publication, edited by well-known Japanese Indologists Junjirō Takakusu and Makoto Nagai, and distributed in London by the noted orientalist publisher Luzac & Company. The Samantapāsādikā is Buddhaghosa’s important 5th-century commentary on the Vinaya Piṭaka (the Buddhist monastic code). It is a key source for understanding monastic rules and the early history of the Buddhist community, including accounts of the Buddhist Councils. This copy has strong historical value because of the major role PTS and Dr. Takakusu played in establishing this edition as an international standard. The hardback is bound in durable gray cloth (approx. 22.2 cm). Condition is Near Fine: clean cloth, no major wear, and bright, clear gilt spine lettering—rare for a 1960s academic volume.
