Warmly inscribed by the author on the title page to Kiyoshi Nakayama, the distinguished Japanese Steinbeck scholar, with a lengthy presentation message signed and dated 26 April 2001. The rear board shows a few faint shelf marks; otherwise there are only minimal signs of handling. The binding remains firm and the text is bright, crisp and clean throughout. An excellent copy. Very scarce.

Illustrated throughout with black-and-white illustrations, a tipped-in colour frontispiece and a photographic illustration. Numbered copy, No. 231 of only 350 copies printed. Inscribed by the author on the flyleaf with her signature and a presentation inscription to Kiyoshi Nakayama, the Japanese Steinbeck scholar, dated Salinas, August 8, 2003. A remarkably well-preserved copy with only minimal signs of handling. The text and illustrations remain in excellent condition throughout.
