The 'Pearl Bible'.Full Leather Binding. The Page edges are all gilt. Repaired and replaced spines with the original boards. Carefully collated. Faults: Page Bb3 in VolⅠhas a small tear to the side of the page with loss to 3 or 4 letters on the side of the page. Page Tt10 in VolⅡ has the corner torn off with loss to some words at the bottom of the page. Damp staining, tanning and some fading throughout. Page Oo to Rr are trimmed tight to the right hand margin sometimes impacting the text(this is historic). Some pages with creases which hide the text(it is present)presumably caused by the binder.
This remarkable and beautiful bible, is known as the ‘Pearl Bible’ from the minuscule type with which it was printed. Most 19th century bibliographers cite it as extremely rare in good condition.
There is some supposition that the edition is a counterfeit one, made in Holland for the English market, but this appears inconclusive.
