This is a first-edition hardcover of A Manual of Materia Medica for Medical Students by E. Quin Thornton, M.D., published in 1911 by Lea & Febiger. Thornton, an Assistant Professor at Jefferson Medical College, provides a detailed record of early 20th-century pharmacology, describing the actions, preparations, and dosages of common therapeutic agents, such as Boric Acid. The book is especially notable for its two original Japanese library stamps: a purple-blue vertical stamp from the “Kōsa Byōin Library” and a red circular stamp from the “Kōyū Library” dated October 27, 1928. These mark the book’s use in Japan during the early Shōwa Period, showing its role in the introduction of Western medicine there. Condition: Good (B). Cloth binding shows shelf wear and discoloration; text block is tanned with foxing. Interior clean with toned flyleaves and stamped title page.

Founded by well-known Indologists Nalini Balbir and Georges-Jean Pinault, the journal was produced by the French Association for Sanskrit/Indian Studies. It contains advanced research and reviews on Sanskrit philology, Indian history, religion, philosophy, and art, with a focus on ancient India in the French scholarly tradition. Each volume features a line drawing of the Hindu god Ganesha on the cover. Some issues were supported by the CNRS and the University of Paris-III, showing their academic value. Condition: Good (B).
