PREFACE
This book is intended as a picture album of colorful memories to those who have spent their days in Japan and as a carefully and conscientiously edited guide book for those who are planning to visit our land in the near future. It is the Author's sincere hope that this book will prove useful in both these ways.
"One seeing rather than a hundred lectures" is an old Japanese proverb; its Western equivalent would perhaps be "Seeing is believing." It is exactly this fact that has caused the Author to try something different from the ordinary run of guide books, a pictorial guide book with the first and last emphasis on photographs.

Up for auction is a vintage 1979 edition of Chez les passants by the major Symbolist writer Villiers de l’Isle-Adam. Published in Paris by ?ditions Plasma in the “Les Feuilles Vives” series, this book brings together short prose pieces, fantasies, pamphlets, and memories first published after the author’s death in 1890. The Work: Villiers de l’Isle-Adam (1838?1889) is a key figure of both Symbolism and the Decadent movement. This collection shows his sharp humor, cutting irony, and proud rejection of ordinary life. It offers an engaging look at the mind behind Ax?l and The Future Eve.
Bibliographic Details: Softcover, French language, ISBN 2-901-376-35-5, standard paperback length. Good vintage. The cover shows light shelf wear, but the binding is firm. The text-block edges have the usual tanning and foxing seen in older French paperbacks. Inside, the pages are clean, with no writing, and slightly tanned. A solid reading copy and a useful addition for collectors.
