S. Henry Berthoud、Alfred Mame et Fils、1867
An antique French natural history book, L’Esprit des Oiseaux (The Spirit of Birds) by S. Henry Berthoud, published by Alfred Mame et Fils, 1867. Illustrated with numerous detailed wood engravings by Yan’ Dargent, famed for his work with Jules Verne, showing birds in natural and human settings. The front endpaper bears a purple ink inscription, “2e Prix d’Excellence G. Anizon,” identifying it as a 19th-century school prize book. Condition: Fair / Acceptable heavy foxing throughout, but the red cloth binding is sound and text and plates are complete and legible. A representative Second Empire “Livre de Prix”, valued for its engravings despite age-related wear.
