Rosen (1847–1921) was a leading Russian imperial diplomat, serving as Minister to Japan before the Russo-Japanese War and later as Ambassador to the United States. His memoirs offer an important eyewitness account of early 20th-century diplomacy, East Asian geopolitics, and the decline of the Tsarist regime. This copy bears the vintage Isseido (Tokyo) bookseller label. Original cloth shows wear; interior heavily foxed. Volume I only, no dust jacket.
