Small 8vo. Bound in the publisher’s original red cloth, with gilt titling to the spine. Housed in the original dust jacket. The dust jacket shows sunning to the spine. All edges lightly foxed. The endpapers exhibit mild foxing. The title page bears a previous owner's signature. The text shows faint age-related toning, but is otherwise generally clean throughout.

The 'Pearl Bible'. Full contemporary leather. All edges gilt. Rebacked with the original boards preserved. Carefully collated.
Faults: Page Bb3 in Vol. I has a small tear to the fore-edge, with loss of 3 or 4 letters. Page Tt10 in Vol. II has the corner torn away, with the loss of a few words at the foot of the page. Damp-staining, age-toning and occasional fading throughout. Pages Oo to Rr are trimmed close at the fore-edge margin, occasionally affecting the text (an early binder's error). Some pages have creases obscuring the text (which remains present), presumably occurring during binding.

This remarkable Bible is known as the 'Pearl Bible' from the minuscule type with which it was printed. It has been suggested that this edition may represent a Dutch counterfeit printing produced for the English market, although the evidence remains inconclusive. Most nineteenth-century bibliographers, including Lowndes, describe the edition as extremely rare in good condition.

Facsimile reprints edition. 6 volumes in 4, comprising a complete set. Bound in sturdy dark blue backram with gilt lettering on the spines. The original edition was published from 1838 to 1857 by London: Longman et al, but this edition has no copyright page specifying the publication year or ISBN information. However, it does indicate the printing house as 'London: A. Spottiswoode, New Street Square'.
Slight stains are present on all edges, presumably due to aging. The binding is firm and secure, and the text remains clean throughout all volumes.
