Small 8vo. Twelfth Thousand. Bound in full green calf by Davies & Son, Gloucester, the spine with five raised bands, gilt decoration and red morocco lettering-piece; boards ruled in gilt, with the gilt crest of the Crypt School to the upper board. Marbled edges and endpapers, with gilt-tooled turn-ins. Crypt School examination prize label dated Midsummer 1886 to the front pastedown, with the recipient's name in manuscript. Binder's ticket of Davies & Son to the lower corner of the front pastedown. A later presentation inscription, dated 1931, with a further inscription dated Christmas 1946, appears on a front free endpaper. Illustrated with 16 engravings. The calf remains notably supple, with only light wear. Hinges sound and binding firm. Some light spotting to the preliminary leaves, otherwise the text remains remarkably clean and well preserved throughout.
