This is a complete two-volume March 1971 Deuxième Réimpression of Max Milner’s classic Le Diable dans la Littérature Française: De Cazotte à Baudelaire (1772–1861), published by the esteemed Librairie José Corti. A foundational study of demonic and Gothic themes in 19th-century French literature. Condition: Good (B), with very heavy age-toning/browning, minor rubbing, and slight spine-edge fraying; structurally sound and complete. Copyright 1960. Height under 22 cm. A scarce early Corti reprint, highly desirable for collectors of French Romanticism, Decadence, and literary criticism.
