1813年の対仏解放戦争時に、ベルリン大学教授だったフィヒテが行った応用哲学につていの講演記録を彼の死後に編集者が表題を付けて書籍として出版したもので、人類の未来の課題として「理性の国」の設立が論じられています。
本書は、国民社会主義政権による第二次世界大戦の敗戦後に、ナショナリズムという概念が否定的に扱われるようになったドイツにおいて、主著「ドイツ国民に告ぐ」と並んでフィヒテが忌み嫌われる理由ともなった講演記録でもあります。
ただ、フィヒテが一般義務兵役を擁護した理由は、単純にナショナルスティックな主張に転向したということだけではなく、絶対主義国家での人間を物件としてしか見ない常備軍は否定するが、人間を人格として扱い、自衛を目的にした徴兵制による国民皆兵は認めると解釈できるカントの永久平和論構想の下地を持ち続けていたためと言われています。
またこの講演でフィヒテが唱えた「理性の国」のドイツでの実現とその広がりが、永遠平和を実現するための同盟形成につながるという考えは、カントが『永遠平和のために』で訴えた「啓蒙された強力な共和国」を基にした「国際連合」が形成されることで永遠平和が実現できるという考えを、フィヒテ流に引き継いだものであるといわれています。

First edition, 8vo, xvi, 336pp, half cloth binding with marbled board, title lettered in gilt, note on fly leaf, inscribed by former owner, page torn on 307/308, but no affecting on text 1813年の対仏解放戦争時に、ベルリン大学教授だったフィヒテが行った応用哲学につていの講演記録を彼の死後に編集者が表題を付けて書籍として出版したもので、人類の未来の課題として「理性の国」の設立が論じられています。本書は、国民社会主義政権による第二次世界大戦の敗戦後に、ナショナリズムという概念が否定的に扱われるようになったドイツにおいて、主著「ドイツ国民に告ぐ」と並んでフィヒテが忌み嫌われる理由ともなった講演記録でもあります。ただ、フィヒテが一般義務兵役を擁護した理由は、単純にナショナルスティックな主張に転向したということだけではなく、絶対主義国家での人間を物件としてしか見ない常備軍は否定するが、人間を人格として扱い、自衛を目的にした徴兵制による国民皆兵は認めると解釈できるカントの永久平和論構想の下地を持ち続けていたためと言われています。またこの講演でフィヒテが唱えた「理性の国」のドイツでの実現とその広がりが、永遠平和を実現するための同盟形成につながるという考えは、カントが『永遠平和のために』で訴えた「啓蒙された強力な共和国」を基にした「国際連合」が形成されることで永遠平和が実現できるという考えを、フィヒテ流に引き継いだものであるといわれています。参考文献伊藤貴雄「永遠平和論の背面　－近代軍制史のなかのカント－」、『東洋哲学研究所紀要』 27号、 61-62頁, 2011 栩木憲一郎「フィヒテにおける永遠平和に向けた政治思想の展開について」、『千葉大学人文社会科学研究』、24号、2012年、91-92頁
