Georges Poulet、Librairie José Corti、1974、22.5 x 14・・・
This is a vintage 1974 printing of La Conscience critique (The Critical Consciousness) by Georges Poulet (1902–1991), a major figure of the Geneva School of literary criticism. Published by the well-known Librairie José Corti in Paris, it presents Poulet’s influential study of how critics read and think. In this book, Poulet applies his phenomenological method not to novelists or poets but to critics themselves. He examines the “critical consciousness” of Gaston Bachelard, Jean-Paul Sartre, Roland Barthes, Maurice Blanchot, and Jean Starobinski, showing how each critic enters the mental world of the authors they interpret. Rated Fair to Good, suitable as a reading copy. The classic Corti cream cover shows strong spine browning and noticeable edge wear. Inside, the endpapers and first pages have heavy foxing, and the paper is age-toned. The text itself is clean, with no underlining. Pencil notes appear on the front free endpaper. Binding remains solid.
