François Vivares、1770-1779、23cm × 28cm
This is an 18th-century copperplate engraving titled *The Little Farmer*, engraved and published in London by François Vivares (1709–1780). The image is based on a work by Nicolaes Berchem (also inscribed as “Berghem”), a Dutch Golden Age master celebrated for his Italianate landscapes, and is thought to date from the 1770s (circa 1772 or 1777). The pastoral scene depicts a farmer on horseback driving cattle and sheep through a rocky landscape, composed within a circular medallion. Executed in etching and engraving on laid paper, the print shows even age-toning but retains a strong, clear impression with no major damage, making it a fine example of British landscape printmaking.
