1900-1901
A scarce bound volume of The Japan Evangelist covering 1900–1901 (Meiji 33–34), an important monthly journal for the Christian missionary community in Japan, documenting religious work, Japanese culture, and contemporary events. The volume includes a full-page photographic plate of “Count Okuma’s Chrysanthemum Bed at Waseda, Tokyo,” articles on the Commodore Perry landing anniversary (July 1901), the Summer School for English Teachers at Imperial University Kyoto, and translations of Japanese poetry. Condition is Poor, sold as a reading or rebinding copy only, with major loss to the leather spine, fragile binding, heavy foxing and staining to endpapers, age-toned but legible text pages, and an ex-library spine label.
