First edition Thus.Full leather binding. Five raised bands on spine.Compartment two contains a red label with the title 'Smith's Bible'. Other compartments are plain. Page edges plain. Paste downs and free endpapers are marbled. Front paste down is torn to the upper left corner. Front free endpaper is frayed and chipped at the page edge as are the pages up to the title page. Handwriting by a Joseph Robinson on both front and rear endpapers.Title page is age toned towards the edges, marked and has a closed tear on the bottom edge towards the center.Pages are age toning and worn. Pages 1231-1242 have the bottom right corner torn out, text is missing.Text is bright and clear. Overall a volume in contemporary binding in unrestored condition albeit worn, slightly damaged with loss and marked. No plates or maps present or evidence of them being bound in.

Full leather binding.Faded gilt borders around the boards.Spine has been repaired with the original spine laid on.Six raised bands on spine.Each compartment contains faded gilt decorations,apart from the second compartment which contains faded gilt title. Page edges plain.Front pastedown contains a 'John Medows Rodwell' bookplate withe a copperplate signature underneath.New free endpapers.Pages are foxed and tanned.Hinges and binding are in good condition(repaired). 29 engraved illustrations on full page plates.One of the plates has damage with loss to the image at the middle base.Text is bright and clear.Overall a nice volume albeit worn with age.Scarce volume.One recorded at the British Library and one at the Alexander Turnbull Library.
