70 designs, specially prepared by the
author for this book. The designs them-
selves are very varied in their patterns,
stitches, colours, materials and motifs.
They include place mats, tablecloths,
napkins, runners, and so on. Though
often intricate and demanding, they are
clearly and simply described. A full
page of photographs illustrates each
finished article, together with details
of border patterns and individual mo-
tifs. There are altogether 128 photo-
graphs, including six in full colour,
and 18 line drawings. Two short intro-
ductory sections deal with adapting
motifs to different ideas, and with
pressing and blocking the finished
article. At the end is a comprehensive
glossary of stitches. Apart from provid-
ing attractive home furnishings and
gifts, these designs will encourage the
keen embroidress to invent and em-.
