Major Henry Knollys、Chapman and Hall、1887
This copy bears the prestigious bookseller label of Isseido (Kanda, Tokyo), indicating distinguished provenance in the Japanese antiquarian market. It is bound in the publisher’s original black cloth with a striking pictorial design featuring two kimono-clad women in gilt and a stylized red title. The book is a vivid Meiji-era travelogue (1887) by a British military officer, describing Japanese customs, religion, and modernization, and includes a photographic frontispiece of jinrikisha runners. Provenance includes an Isseido sticker, a custom preservation box, and a manuscript inscription dated April 20, 1891. Condition is Fair/Good antique, with attractive but worn binding and heavy foxing on preliminary pages, while the main text remains sound.
