Translated observations on Meiji-era Japan, focusing on art, craftsmanship, and daily life. Illustrated with “One Hundred Designs by the Author,” depicting artisans, architecture, and scenes such as sumo wrestling. Bound in original decorative cloth with Japanese motifs in silver/grey stamping. Condition: Good- / Fair soiled and darkened cloth with wear, age-toned but clean pages, and extensive handwritten notes on endpapers. A genuine example of late 19th-century Japonisme literature.
