An attractive rebound copy of the 1855 Senate Executive Document No. 34 (33rd Congress, 2nd Session) titled “Message of the President of the United States… relative to the naval expedition to Japan.” Dated January 31, 1855, this official report contains correspondence and instructions from President Franklin Pierce and Secretary of the Navy J. C. Dobbin concerning Commodore Matthew Perry’s expedition, including sailing directions for Yedo (Tokyo) Bay and early diplomacy leading to the Treaty of Kanagawa. Modern quarter binding with red gilt spine and marbled boards. Condition: Excellent binding; good interior with age toning. A key primary source predating the 1856 Narrative.

1854年の日米和親条約締結直後、1855年1月に当時のフランクリン・ピアース大統領から米国上院へ提出された、ペリー提督による日本遠征に関する極めて重要な公式報告書です。

本資料は、海軍長官J.C.ドビンの報告に基づき、遠征に至る指示書、往復書簡、交渉の経過、そして条約締結に至るまでの詳細な外交文書を網羅した議会配布用の公文書（Ex. Doc. No. 34）です。幕末・開国史における一次史料として、日本国内の博物館や研究機関でも重視される歴史的資料です。

装丁は後の時代に美しいマーブル紙を用いた半革装に製本し直されており、書棚での保管や鑑賞にも適した状態です。
